Residential Epoxy Flooring Questions

Common questions from Vancouver homeowners before their first epoxy project.

Most single-car or two-car garage floor projects are completed in one to two days. A standard single-car garage typically takes one full day: half a day for surface prep and grinding, and the second half for coating application. Larger four-car garages or complex metallic systems may require two days. We'll give you an exact timeline when we assess your floor.

It depends on the system. Standard epoxy coatings are typically walkable after 12–16 hours and ready for vehicle traffic after 72 hours. If you need your garage back sooner, we offer polyaspartic systems that are walkable in just 2–4 hours and vehicle-ready within 24 hours. We'll walk you through timing at the assessment so you can plan accordingly.

Yes — the garage needs to be completely clear for us to properly grind and coat the entire slab. This includes vehicles, storage shelving, bikes, toolboxes, and anything else sitting on or against the floor. If you have heavy items like a workbench that can't easily be moved, let us know in advance and we'll figure out the best approach during the site assessment.

Both are excellent floor coating systems, but they have different strengths. Standard epoxy is a two-part coating that bonds extremely well to concrete, offers great impact resistance, and is very cost-effective — though it requires 24–72 hours cure time and can yellow if exposed to direct UV light. Polyaspartic is a newer aliphatic coating that cures much faster (walkable in hours), is fully UV-stable so it won't yellow or fade, and performs well in the full range of temperatures we see in Vancouver. Polyaspartic systems typically cost more but offer faster return to service and better long-term colour stability. We can apply either — or combine them (epoxy base + polyaspartic topcoat) for the best of both worlds.

Absolutely. We've been coating floors in Metro Vancouver since 2018 and our systems are specifically chosen and installed to handle local conditions — wet winters, temperature swings, and the de-icing salts tracked in from roads and driveways. The key is proper surface prep: we test for moisture before coating and use penetrating primers appropriate for Vancouver's damp concrete slabs. Our coatings are rated for the full range of temperatures and humidity levels we experience here. If you have an older slab with known moisture issues, we'll identify that during the assessment and recommend the appropriate system.
